One of the signature species of Belize, this heron usually hides in the undergrowth near rivers. I was lucky to see this specimen out in early morning.
A northern jacana stops to look around as it feeds at end of the day. I came across three of them feeding on the banks of a lake. They are normally nervous birds that fly off at the slightest hint, but did not mind me sitting down a few feet from them that day.
