An American Avocet feeds in evening light near the Great Salt Lake. These elegant shorebirds feed in loose groups in marshes, fresh and salt water lakes, often squabbling among themselves and with other shorebirds. I liked this image for the light and water droplets from the beak.
A male peacock wakes up at first light in the Mudumalai Forest. Peacocks greet the arrival of a new dawn through loud calls which enabled me locate this bird in the dawn light.
I was about to leave after photographing shorebirds at a small lake after sunset when I saw this sandpiper approaching along the shore. It was actively feeding on midges and brine flies at the water's edge, and ended up just a few feet away from me. Photographing it, however, was challenging in the low light as it was running back and forth chasing insects.
