A swamp sparrow in the middle of its territorial song in the Horicon Marsh NWR in Wisconsin. Each variety of sparrow has its own song which help identify the species. In addition all birds - not just sparrows - have multiple types of calls. These are used for different purposes - some to advertise territory, others to sound alarm, to communicate with each other and even express aggression.
